If you’re thinking about improving your smile, two popular options worth considering are composite bonding and ceramic veneers. Both can make a big difference to your teeth’s appearance, but they have distinct advantages depending on your needs, lifestyle, and budget.

Composite bonding explained

Composite bonding involves applying a tooth-coloured resin directly to the tooth’s surface to correct imperfections such as chips, small gaps, or mild discolouration. It’s sculpted carefully to blend with your natural teeth and then hardened with a special light. Most treatments can be completed in a single visit, making it a quick and minimally invasive choice.

Bonding is also more affordable than veneers and doesn’t require removing much (if any) of your natural enamel. However, it’s slightly less durable and may need touch-ups over time.

What about ceramic veneers?

Ceramic veneers are thin shells of porcelain custom-made in a dental laboratory. They’re designed to cover the entire front surface of the tooth, offering a long-term solution for more significant imperfections like deep staining, worn edges, or uneven teeth. They usually require two visits - one for preparation and impressions, and another for fitting.

Porcelain veneers are highly stain-resistant and can last over 15 years with proper care, making them an excellent choice if you’re seeking a dramatic, lasting change.
